James McGahey

Born on the 17th June 1838 in Monaghan, Ireland. He joined the British Army on the 17th June 1855 and served in the 47th, 84th and 27th regiment of foot. He married Elizabeth Parrish on the 1st September 1870 at Colchester, Essex. At the time of the 1881 census James lived at 20, Cotton Buildings and the census place was Exeter St Mary Major, Devon. He was an Army Pensioner aged 48 born in Ireland. Living with him was his wife Elizabeth aged 39 born at Satsford, Devon. Michael John aged 7, James Francis aged 2, Sidney Herbert McGahey aged 2 mths.

Agnes McGahey

She was a school teacher and looked after her mother. They both lived in a house near the Quay in Exeter.

Harry McGahey

He worked on the railway and lived near Bristol. He has one son who served in the Devon Fire Service in Ilfracombe were he and his family live.
